Nafiu faction issues seven-day warning to Atiku over ADC presidential candidacy claims

The Nafiu Bala Gombe-led faction of the ADC has ordered Atiku Abubakar to stop claiming he is their 2027 presidential candidate and issued a one-week ultimatum for a public apology.

A group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) headed by National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe has demanded that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar stop identifying himself as the party’s presidential hopeful for the 2027 elections. In a public statement released Tuesday, Nafiu clarified that Atiku holds no such status within the organization.

The faction has issued a seven-day deadline for the former Vice President to issue a formal apology to stakeholders for issuing unauthorized declarations on the party’s behalf. Should he fail to meet this requirement, the faction intends to pursue legal action. Additionally, Nafiu warned Atiku to cease utilizing the ADC’s branding and logo to disseminate what he described as misleading information.

Furthermore, Nafiu requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) update its records by removing members associated with the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee. The chairman asserted that a recent court ruling invalidated all actions taken by the Mark-led committee and directed the electoral body to officially recognize the authentic party leadership instead.
