Dr. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has confirmed that two members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have switched their allegiance to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The lawmakers moving to the opposition party are Mohammed Omadefu, representing Keana, and Jacob Kudu, representing Nasarawa Eggon East.
During Tuesday’s legislative session in Lafia, the Speaker read formal resignation letters from both politicians. In their correspondence, the two officials stated that they were prompted to leave the APC due to unfair treatment experienced during the recent party primary elections. Speaker Jatau acknowledged their decision, noting that while some party members accepted the primary results, others chose to seek different political avenues for their careers.
Separately, the House advanced a bill aimed at amending the 2025 Nasarawa State Education Trust Fund Law. Sponsored by Abel Bala of the PDP, the proposed legislation is designed to boost state revenue, foster job creation, and elevate educational standards. Supporters of the bill argued that it serves as a vital tool for improving local living conditions. However, Deputy Speaker Mohammed Oyanki expressed concern regarding an existing leadership conflict within the Education Trust Fund, suggesting that the legislature prioritize resolving that issue before amending the law. Following the debate, Speaker Jatau referred the bill to the House Committee on Education, requesting a report by July 28.
