Families Gather at Ogbomoso Hospital as Rescued Oyo Students Await Homecoming

Families have gathered at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso to reunite with 39 students and seven teachers rescued after their abduction in Oyo State.

On Tuesday, families and relatives assembled at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso to finally reunite with students and teachers recently freed from captivity in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area.

Medical personnel are currently performing thorough health screenings and providing psychological care for the victims. The group, consisting of 39 pupils, seven educators, and a principal, was kidnapped on May 15, 2026, when armed individuals believed to be affiliated with Ansaru raided three local schools simultaneously. The attacks targeted Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, L.A. Primary School, and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esiele.

A joint task force of military, police, and intelligence units secured the release of the hostages on July 10, 2026. The Presidency reported that the rescue operation resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the apprehension of eight suspects. Governor Seyi Makinde met with the survivors on Monday, acknowledging the immense relief their safe recovery brings to the entire state following their prolonged ordeal.
