Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, has urged for an impartial inquiry into recent graft accusations leveled against Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu. This demand was issued by Atiku’s media team in Abuja this Tuesday.
The push for anc investigation follows a report by The Gazette, which claimed that Gbajabiamila improperly authorized the diversion of roughly N54 billion in oil and gas royalties by utilizing fraudulent legislation. These claims remain unverified, and the Chief of Staff had not issued a public response by the time the statement was released.
Atiku emphasized that these accusations require a transparent probe to ensure public officials face accountability. He characterized the matter as a significant issue regarding the unchecked nature of corruption in governance. Furthermore, he criticized the current administration for allegedly maintaining double standards by shielding government insiders while pursuing opposition members.
Highlighting the need for consistent legal application, Atiku compared the situation to the case of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who was suspended during similar investigations under the Buhari administration. He insisted that Gbajabiamila should undergo a formal investigation to address these ongoing concerns and any previous allegations surfaced against him, maintaining that all public office holders must be held to the same standard of justice.
