Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has signaled his intent to reshape his squad by requesting the departure of goalkeepers Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen. The manager believes neither player possesses the quality necessary to lead the team toward a Premier League title challenge.
As reported by the Portuguese publication Correio da Manha, Alonso has identified Porto’s Diogo Costa as his primary transfer target. The Chelsea boss reportedly tracked Costa’s progress prior to the World Cup and has been further impressed by the goalkeeper’s consistent displays for the Portuguese national team.
Alonso, who assumed his role at the club in early July and conducted his initial media briefing this past Tuesday, is now looking to solidify the defensive foundation of his side. It remains uncertain whether the club will successfully negotiate a deal for Costa before the current transfer period concludes.
