Two Suspects Apprehended by Taraba Taskforce During Illegal Mining Site Raid

The Taraba Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce raided a gold mining site in Bali LGA, arresting two suspects and seizing various pieces of mining equipment.

On Monday, the Taraba Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce successfully executed a raid on a gold extraction site located in Mayo Kam, Gantu village, within the Bali Local Government Area. Two individuals were taken into custody during the operation.

Taskforce Chairman Emmanuel Jamu stated that the raid was the result of extensive intelligence operations. Personnel faced challenging geographical conditions to infiltrate the secluded site. While a majority of the miners managed to escape into the surrounding woodland, two were caught while trying to flee.

Authorities seized various tools from the scene, such as generators, digging implements, water pumps, and mineral-processing machinery. Jamu emphasized that these enforcement actions will continue, noting that suspects cannot evade justice indefinitely. He also urged local leaders to provide tips to help track down those still in hiding.

The two detainees are currently being held, as the taskforce prepares to extend its sweep to other regions. This enforcement follows a June 19 state government mandate that suspended all mining activity in Taraba due to security risks.
