A 300-level student from Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma has been murdered, and five additional people were kidnapped in separate incidents across Edo State. The violence occurred in the Idoa and Ekpoma areas between July 10 and July 12, 2026.
On July 12, armed attackers stormed a residence in Ekpoma, resulting in the death of the university student and the abduction of a woman. These details were publicized via the Esan Political Assembly social media page.
Separately, on July 10, the secretary to the Idoa palace was seized alongside three children. A relative of the secretary stated that the victims were taken while attempting to repair a broken vehicle. The kidnappers are now demanding 30 million naira in ransom, threatening to kill the captives if the deadline of July 13 is not met. Local authorities and security agencies have been notified of the situation.
Edo State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, has not yet provided a statement. These kidnappings follow a violent incident on February 26, 2026, where Chief Jimah Jacob Ogboi was killed and his daughters were taken by gunmen in a similar fashion.
