Iraola signals need for new recruits at Liverpool

New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has confirmed the club is pursuing further transfers while outlining his vision for an aggressive, high-energy style of play.

Andoni Iraola, the freshly appointed Liverpool manager, has confirmed that the club is actively seeking to improve its roster before the 2026/27 Premier League campaign begins. Despite securing defender Jeremy Jacquet and winger Victor Munoz, the Spaniard stressed that further signings are essential to improve upon last year’s fifth-place finish.

During his opening press conference, the 44-year-old expressed a desire to have all recruits ready for pre-season, acknowledging that the club is pushing to finalize deals as quickly as possible. Iraola succeeds Arne Slot, who was fired in May, and takes over a roster currently depleted by the departure of Mohamed Salah and significant injuries to Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, and Giovanni Leoni.

The former Bournemouth boss plans to install a playing style described as intense, aggressive, and direct, aiming to foster a stronger bond between the team and the Anfield supporters. He noted that he is prepared for the scrutiny that accompanies managing a club of this stature. As he evaluates the current squad, Iraola intends to adapt his tactical philosophy based on the specific qualities of his players. Notably, he stated that Harvey Elliott will be given a chance to prove his worth following a difficult loan period at Aston Villa. Liverpool kicks off their league schedule against Newcastle on August 23.
