Anambra State Prosecutes Blogger for Defaming Governor Soludo and His Son

Ejike Ofoegbu, a blogger who admitted to fabricating stories about Governor Soludo and his son for financial gain, has been arraigned in an Anambra court on cybercrime and defamation charges.

Authorities in Anambra State have officially charged Ejike Ofoegbu, the publisher of Igbo Times Magazine and INews, with criminal defamation and cybercrime. These charges stem from allegations regarding his reports about Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the governor’s son, Ozonna.

The state government announced the court proceedings on Monday via its social media account on X. The post noted that Ofoegbu, also known as Experience, appeared before the Amawbia Magistrate Court as the legal process regarding the alleged fabrication of false news continued.

This court appearance followed Ofoegbu’s recent public retraction of the claims. He had previously issued a formal apology, admitting that the articles were entirely invented to drive web traffic and increase ad revenue. Ofoegbu confirmed that none of the information regarding the Soludo family was grounded in truth or verified by any official sources.
