Oyo School Principal Abducted by Gunmen; N30 Million Ransom Requested

Gunmen have kidnapped the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School in Oyo State, demanding a N30 million ransom for his safe return.

Matthew Kolawale Owoade, the 60-year-old headmaster of Nomadic Basic School in Igbojaye, Oyo State, has been kidnapped by unknown assailants. Known locally as Onaiye, the educator was taken on the evening of July 11, 2026. His son, Abiola Owoade, reported that his father was intercepted while heading home from his farm.

Shortly after the abduction, the captors used the victim’s phone to demand a N30 million ransom. While the headmaster remains missing, a search party discovered his motorcycle left behind in a nearby bush on the morning of July 12, 2026. Educators and family members are urging the police, DSS, and NSCDC to launch a rescue operation.

Oyo State Police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the kidnapping, noting that the incident took place at the victim’s farm in Budo Aare. Authorities stated that active measures are currently underway to locate and rescue Owoade while apprehending those responsible.
