Authorities in Benue State have verified that eight individuals were murdered during a suspected terrorist strike on a village located in the Otukpo Local Government Area. Cletus Nwadiogbu, the State Commissioner of Police, detailed the tragedy, which claimed the lives of five adults and three children, to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.
Commissioner Nwadiogbu spent the day evaluating the scene and working to stabilize the area with security teams. He noted that the assailants utilized guerrilla tactics, striking the community suddenly before retreating into the dense forest, which has complicated capture efforts. While local youth initially reacted with violence to the loss, they have since reached an agreement with the police to clear blocked roads.
Official investigations are currently underway to understand the motives behind the assault and to determine if it relates to prior violence in the region. Nwadiogbu characterized the event as a clear act of terror and promised that security forces are actively working to locate the perpetrators and bolster safety for the local population.
