NBA Electoral Chairman Ejelam Affirms July 18 Election Date Is Final

The NBA Electoral Committee Chairman, Aham Ejelam, has insisted that the national election scheduled for July 18 will proceed as planned, dismissing calls for his resignation as unfounded.

Chief Aham Ejelam, SAN, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Electoral Committee, has firmly stated that the upcoming national officers’ election will proceed on July 18 as planned. In a statement issued on Sunday, Ejelam described the date as non-negotiable and consistent with the organization’s revised electoral timetable.

Addressing recent public demands for his resignation from Chief Yomi Alliyu, SAN, Ejelam dismissed the accusations as based on speculation and unverified claims. He emphasized that his committee remains focused on its mandate and will not be swayed by political influence. Ejelam asserted that he would not abandon his professional duty, noting that the committee’s authority is derived directly from the NBA Constitution and the directives of the association’s recognized organs.

Regarding allegations of irregularities involving the election service provider, Ejelam challenged critics to provide concrete evidence rather than relying on hearsay. He stated that the committee followed standard procurement processes and that the integrity of the voters’ register is being maintained through transparent procedures. Ejelam reaffirmed that the committee is dedicated to conducting a fair and credible election for all eligible members.

Meanwhile, NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has taken steps to ensure transparency by inviting international and local observers to monitor the process. Organizations including the European Union, the United States Embassy, the British High Commission, Yiaga Africa, and the Transition Monitoring Group have been requested to oversee the proceedings. This move underscores the association’s commitment to upholding democratic standards within its ranks.
