The Edo Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has officially announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of every local government chairmanship seat across the state. In the elections held on Saturday, the party also secured all 192 available ward councillorship positions.
Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, the chairman of EDSIEC, confirmed the results during a press briefing in Benin City on Sunday, July 12, 2026. He stated that the voting process, which covered all 18 local government areas, followed the regulations set out in the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law 2022, as updated in 2026.
Aifuobhokhan noted that while there were minor operational difficulties in certain areas, the overall exercise remained peaceful and legitimate. He praised the returning officers for their professional conduct throughout the counting and collation stages. The commission plans to present official certificates of return to the winners on Monday, July 13, 2026.
For those dissatisfied with the outcome, the commission advised using legal channels to pursue grievances. Aifuobhokhan also extended his appreciation to the security agencies, civil society groups, community leaders, and the public for their peaceful participation in the electoral process.
