Theo Burrell, a respected ceramics and glass appraiser featured on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, has died at the age of 39. She had been battling glioblastoma, a highly aggressive and terminal form of brain cancer, for over four years.
Burrell, who worked with Lyon & Turnbull in Edinburgh, joined the popular television series in 2018. Following her diagnosis in June 2022, she underwent various intensive treatments, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Despite receiving an initial life expectancy of only 12 to 18 months, she managed to witness significant family milestones, including her wedding and her son’s first day of school.
Her family confirmed via social media that she passed away peacefully on Wednesday. Throughout her illness, Burrell campaigned extensively for increased government funding and improved clinical research for brain tumours. In 2023, she became a patron of the charity Brain Tumour Research. Dan Knowles, the organization’s chief executive, described her as an inspiring figure whose determination to aid others despite her own prognosis left a lasting impact.
