Ten Die from Cholera Outbreak in Ebonyi
At least ten people have been confirmed dead following a cholera outbreak in Ndibokote village, Ezza Inyimagu, in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Investigations revealed that the outbreak, which began on Monday, included the tragic loss of a nursing mother who left behind a 9-month-old baby.
During a Rapid Response meeting at Iziogo Health Centre on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, confirmed the incident, noting that ten deaths had been recorded and about 20 affected individuals were responding to treatment.
He outlined the Ebonyi State government’s efforts to manage and control the situation and praised Governor Francis Nwifuru for approving funds for the procurement of medical supplies to combat the outbreak.
The Commissioner noted that three treatment centers have been established in the area, including Iziogo Health Centre, Sudan Mission, Onuenyim, and Ndibokote villages. He urged residents to take precautionary measures to prevent the further spread of the disease.
He advised, “Once you start experiencing symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, or any related symptoms, you should rush to any of these emergency treatment centers.”
He emphasized that he had initiated the emergency rapid response to prevent further loss of life in the area and commended development partners such as the World Health Organization and UNICEF for their support.
