Argentina secure commanding victory against Wales in Nations Championship

Joaquín Oviedo scored twice as Argentina recorded a dominant win over Wales, overshadowing the visitors’ late efforts in San Juan.

Argentina dominated their Nations Championship match in San Juan, defeating Wales with a powerful five-try performance. Number eight Joaquín Oviedo led the charge by scoring a try in each half, helping The Pumas recover from their initial tournament loss to Scotland.

The home team’s offense was relentless, with Justo Piccardo, Marcos Kremer, and Santiago Carreras also crossing the try line. Tomas Albornoz contributed an additional 10 points through his accurate goal-kicking. For Wales, captain Dewi Lake opened the scoring before exiting the game with an injury. Despite late efforts from Rhys Carre and Ben Warren, the visitors were unable to close the gap.

This loss serves as a difficult reality check for the Welsh squad, which had recently celebrated consecutive wins over Italy and Fiji. Facing a superior seventh-ranked opponent, Wales struggled to regain momentum. Wales now prepares for a challenging fixture against South Africa in Durban, while Argentina looks forward to hosting England.
