China has been struck by its second typhoon in seven days, forcing nearly two million residents to evacuate their homes. Typhoon Bavi, which stretches across 1,000km, first arrived in Taizhou on Saturday evening before moving into Wenzhou shortly after midnight.
Before reaching the Chinese mainland, the storm caused significant disruption across the Pacific. It battered Japanese islands and triggered landslides in the Philippines that resulted in at least 17 deaths. While Bavi has been downgraded to a Category 1 storm, authorities remain concerned about the high volume of moisture and the threat of severe flooding.
Over 1.7 million evacuations have been carried out in Zhejiang province as a precautionary measure. Local officials have suspended school sessions, business operations, and outdoor activities to ensure public safety. Additionally, the storm has forced the cancellation of roughly 400 flights and various train routes. This latest event arrives just as southern China continues to recover from Typhoon Maysak, which caused widespread agricultural damage and at least 39 fatalities earlier in the week.
