The Kwara State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially called on the state government to prioritize the release of 176 individuals kidnapped from the Woro community in Kaiama. This plea follows the successful rescue of 49 students and teachers in Oyo State, who returned home after 51 days of captivity.
The Kwara PDP highlighted the Oyo success as a result of persistent public pressure and proactive leadership by Governor Seyi Makinde. According to the party’s statement, signed by Publicity Secretary Olusegun Olusola Adewara, Governor Makinde viewed public criticism as a constructive call to action rather than an attack. In contrast, the party criticized Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for failing to treat the February 3, 2026, abduction of 176 women and children in Woro with sufficient urgency.
It has been 158 days since the Woro attack, an incident that also resulted in nearly 200 fatalities. The PDP accused Governor Abdulrazaq of indifference and alleged that his administration intimidates critics instead of addressing the insecurity that has left many communities feeling vulnerable. The party contrasted this with the situation in Oyo, where Governor Makinde engaged directly with protesters rather than suppressing them.
The Kwara PDP has issued a challenge to Governor Abdulrazaq to emulate this leadership and secure the release of the remaining captives. They also encouraged journalists, civil society organizations, and citizens to continue demanding accountability for those still held in bandit camps across the state.
