Police detain octogenarian and traditional leaders for murder of Benue MACBAN chairman

Seven new suspects, including an 80-year-old man and four traditional rulers, have been arrested by the Benue State Police for the murder of MACBAN chairman Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed.

The Benue State Police Command has taken seven additional individuals into custody regarding the killing of Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, the state Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN). Among those detained are an 80-year-old man, Sylvester Ajonye, and four local chiefs. The other suspects are Chief Morgan Ejaga, Chief Moses Anteyi, Chief John Ogli, Chief Yawuhu Adaji, Aba Alexander Uloko, and Fidelis Iduma.

DSP Udeme Edet, the police spokesperson, announced the arrests on Saturday, attributing the progress to extensive intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical efforts. Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu commended the investigative team and emphasized that the probe is ongoing. He promised that anyone involved in the violence would face prosecution and encouraged the public to support security efforts with reliable information.

Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed and his colleague, Yakubu Isah, were killed on June 26, 2026. The victims were intercepted by gunmen near Okpokwu, situated in the Otukpo Local Government Area, while traveling home from a peace summit held in the Ohinmini Local Government Area.
