The Labour Party has officially introduced Hajja Bintu Konto as the running mate to presidential nominee Dr. Chibuzo Okereke for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The decision, revealed by National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa in Abuja on Saturday, followed extensive discussions with party stakeholders to ensure a ticket focused on integrity, ability, and national representation.
Konto is an accomplished public health expert and humanitarian with three decades of experience. Previously a high-ranking official at Catholic Relief Services, she has managed significant aid and mobilization initiatives for displaced populations in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states. A qualified nurse, midwife, and public health professional with a Master’s degree, Konto currently supports the Global Fund’s Country Coordinating Mechanism and holds a leadership role within ACOMIN.
The Labour Party emphasized that her linguistic skills and deep experience working with traditional, government, and civil society leaders make her an asset. By selecting Konto, the party aims to highlight its dedication to gender equality and institutional reform. The Okereke-Konto partnership intends to prioritize economic recovery, security improvements, and the restoration of public hope, and the party is calling on the electorate to back their platform in 2027.
