A partial collapse at the New Gombe State House of Assembly complex, currently under construction, resulted in the death of one laborer and injuries to seven others. Danladi Adamu, Permanent Secretary for the Gombe State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, reported that the accident happened on Friday at the site’s cantilevered entrance canopy.
Emergency efforts quickly moved the seven survivors to medical facilities; five are being treated at the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, while two are at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. Governor Inuwa Yahaya has offered his sympathies to the victim’s family and mandated that the state cover all medical costs for the survivors.
Governor Yahaya has ordered an official probe into the failure. He instructed the contractor and consultant to provide a formal incident report within one day. This will be followed by both preliminary and technical investigations. The state government emphasized that it will hold parties accountable based on the findings, maintaining its commitment to strict engineering and safety protocols for all public works.
