Security Forces Liberate Kidnapped Couple in Oyo State After Intense Shootout

Joint security forces successfully rescued Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife from kidnappers in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State following a gun battle.

A joint security mission involving the Oyo State Police Command, Amotekun Corps, hunters, and local vigilantes successfully freed a couple held hostage in the Oke-Ogun region. Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were recovered without injury following a gunfight at a forest hideout.

The couple had been seized by five gunmen on July 5, 2026, during an attack on Tiro Village in Irawo. Following the abduction, Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga directed an immediate search effort. By utilizing stolen property left at the scene and tracking technology, the team located the perpetrators.

During the confrontation, the kidnappers fired at security forces before fleeing into the dense forest with injuries. The victims were evaluated at a medical facility and have since returned to their family. Authorities are urging the public to report any individuals seeking treatment for suspicious gunshot wounds to aid in the ongoing manhunt for the escaped suspects. The Command expressed gratitude to the local community and partner organizations for their assistance in the mission.
