Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has challenged legal practitioners to prioritize the rule of law to guarantee transparent and peaceful elections in 2027. He issued this charge during the Second Annual Summit of the Arewa Young Lawyers on Thursday, as reported by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Speaking to young attorneys from Northern Nigeria, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the judiciary carries a vital constitutional duty to protect the democratic process. He noted that the behavior of lawyers throughout the electoral cycle significantly impacts how the public perceives the court system.
The governor stressed the importance of integrity, urging legal experts to ensure that political disputes are handled with impartiality to strengthen democratic institutions. Furthermore, he highlighted his administration’s commitment to judicial reform, noting the expansion of Alternative Dispute Resolution programs to expedite cases and broaden access to justice. He concluded by encouraging lawyers to remain dedicated to fairness as the nation approaches the upcoming general elections.
