SDP Chairman Demands Resignation of Femi Gbajabiamila Over PFIPC Controversy

SDP National Chairman Professor Sadiq Gombe has called for Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to resign from his posts to allow for an independent inquiry into the PFIPC scandal.

Professor Sadiq Gombe, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has urged the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to vacate his office. Gombe made this statement on Thursday in Abuja following a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, citing the ongoing scandal involving the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Gombe argues that Gbajabiamila must step down from both his role as PFIPC chairman and his position as Chief of Staff. This move is necessary, he says, to permit an impartial investigation into the allegations levied against him and to verify his potential innocence. Furthermore, Gombe expressed concern regarding Gbajabiamila’s leadership role on the committee overseeing state police. He questioned the administration’s decision to entrust such a vital national task to an individual currently facing constitutional allegations.

The SDP leader also criticized the regional imbalance within the state police committee, stating that its composition fails to represent Nigeria’s diverse population. He called upon the federal government to prioritize transparency and accountability, noting that numerous other qualified Nigerians are available for such responsibilities. Supporting this position, Femi Olaniyi, the head of the SDP State Chairmen Forum, expressed disappointment with the federal government’s direction. Olaniyi also encouraged party members to enhance grassroots support and voter engagement in preparation for the upcoming 2027 elections.
