Alfie Hewett Maintains Bid for Wimbledon Doubles Crown

Alfie Hewett remains in contention for a Wimbledon title after securing spots in both the men’s wheelchair singles semi-finals and the doubles final alongside Gordon Reid.

British tennis player Alfie Hewett successfully navigated a demanding Thursday at Wimbledon, advancing in both the men’s wheelchair singles and doubles events. The 28-year-old began his day by defeating Ji Zhenxu of China 6-4, 6-1, securing his place in the singles semi-finals.

Later in the day, Hewett joined forces with his long-time partner Gordon Reid to overcome Stephane Houdet and Ji, winning 6-4, 6-3. This victory puts the six-time Wimbledon champions in Saturday’s final against Tokito Oda of Japan and Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina. Despite a 13-minute stoppage in the second set due to a mechanical problem with Houdet’s chair, the British duo maintained their focus to clinch the match.

Hewett’s busy schedule continues Friday as he faces Fernandez in the singles semi-finals on Court One. Elsewhere in the tournament, other British hopefuls saw mixed results. Andrew Penney exited the singles draw following a loss to Martin de la Puente, while the pairings of Lucy Shuker and Kgothatso Montjane, as well as Andy Lapthorne and Gregory Slade, were defeated in their respective doubles semi-finals. Lapthorne remains in contention, however, as he prepares to face Sam Schroder in the quad wheelchair singles semi-final on Friday.
