Ebonyi PDP requests official inquiry into Governor Nwifuru’s convoy altercation

The Ebonyi State PDP is calling for a formal inquiry after a video surfaced showing an altercation between Governor Francis Nwifuru’s security detail and a civilian driver.

The Ebonyi State PDP branch has demanded a formal investigation regarding a recent incident featuring Governor Francis Nwifuru’s security detail. A viral video circulating online depicts a heated dispute between security officers and passengers of a civilian car on the Afikpo-Abakaliki road near Centenary City.

Reports indicate that a Toyota Camry hit a motorcyclist associated with the governor’s entourage, causing injuries. This collision sparked a confrontation that reportedly resulted in vehicle damage. Prince Darlington Peter Onwe, the PDP State Publicity Secretary, has requested that the Department of State Services and the Ebonyi State Police Command examine the event to determine exactly what transpired.

The opposition party has asked the state government to identify the officers involved and clarify their actions. Furthermore, the PDP suggested that officials re-evaluate the rules of engagement for security personnel within convoys to protect the public. Leo Ekene Oketa, an aide to the governor, countered that the online video is incomplete and lacks context. He urged citizens to withhold judgment until the full facts emerge. Oketa emphasized that official convoys require swift movement for security reasons and reminded motorists to follow traffic directives. He also noted that Governor Nwifuru upholds the rule of law and that the administration is currently reviewing the situation.
