Soludo advocates for practical implementation of state police

Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo argues that the debate on state police must shift toward effective implementation within a broader framework of federal and judicial reforms.

Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, recently stated that the discussion surrounding state police has shifted from its potential necessity to the practicalities of its successful execution. During a town hall meeting hosted by Arise News TV, Soludo remarked that current federal reforms initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are consistent with the President’s long-standing support for federalism dating back to his time as Lagos State Governor.

Soludo emphasized that creating state police units is a component of a larger necessity to improve security and justice across the nation. He pointed out that while states have taken on additional duties, the national revenue-sharing model remains outdated. Furthermore, the governor highlighted problems within the centralized judicial system, citing land disputes in Anambra that can linger for decades. He concluded that administrative matters, such as land governance, should be managed entirely at the state level to ensure a more efficient and functional federal framework.
