Mikel Arteta Signs New Three-Year Contract with Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has agreed to a new three-year contract with Arsenal, extending his tenure as manager until 2027.
The 42-year-old Spaniard, who has been at the helm of Arsenal since 2019, has guided the team to consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League.
He was entering the final year of his previous contract.
The new contract is announced just before Arsenal’s Super Sunday match against their arch-rivals Tottenham.
During his first season in charge, Arteta led Arsenal to FA Cup glory in 2020 and has also secured two Community Shield victories in 2020 and 2023.
Arteta expressed his enthusiasm about the new contract, stating: “I feel extremely proud, very excited, and am looking forward to what lies ahead. I’m honored to be in this position and to have built such strong relationships with everyone at the club.”
He added, “I feel incredibly fortunate to work daily with such dedicated people and share in the club’s ambition. I am inspired, challenged, and supported, and I am eager to achieve even more than we have together so far.”
Arteta emphasized the collective effort, saying, “Together with the players and everyone at the club, and with our supporters who have emotionally transformed the club and the team, we look forward to the coming years. Our supporters have made a significant impact on us, and we are determined to continue this journey together.”
Under Arteta’s leadership, Arsenal initially struggled, finishing eighth in his first two seasons, which led to missing out on European football for the first time in 25 years.
However, following an improved fifth-place finish and subsequent second-place finishes, Arsenal secured a return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
In the 2023/24 season, Arsenal achieved a record number of Premier League wins (28) and accumulated 89 points, falling just two points behind Manchester City.
This represents a significant improvement of 33 points since Arteta’s arrival, with a consistent rise in their points tally each season.
