Law enforcement officials in Niger State have taken five people into custody for the alleged theft of 17 goats in the Mokwa Local Government Area. SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the state police, confirmed that officers from the Mokwa Division apprehended the group during a routine patrol on the Mokwa bypass on July 7.
Authorities discovered the suspects attempting to load the livestock into a Toyota Corolla, registered as KNT 23 HP. Because the group failed to provide a valid explanation for their possession of the animals, they were detained immediately. Follow-up investigations determined that the goats were pilfered from various residents in Mokwa and were being transported to Bida for illicit sale.
The suspects include 24-year-old Ramatu Yahaya, 30-year-old Amina Usman, 15-year-old Isyaku Yahaya, 31-year-old Danjuma Danladi, and 30-year-old Mohammad Adamu. Several owners have since recovered their animals. The police are continuing their search for other syndicate members and plan to bring the suspects to court once the investigation is finalized.
