Russia strongly criticized the United States on Thursday for suggesting that Ukrainian drone operations against Russian energy infrastructure could facilitate a conclusion to the ongoing war. Ukraine has utilized long-range drones to target Russian military and industrial sites, describing these maneuvers as a justified response to Moscow’s continuous aerial assaults on Ukrainian urban centers.
During a Wednesday meeting, US President Donald Trump appeared to support these tactics, noting that while the situation is escalating, such actions might provide a path toward resolution. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment, suggesting the strikes could provide leverage for peace negotiations. The Kremlin quickly rebuffed these notions. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the White House holds a flawed perspective, arguing that increasing military pressure will not force Russia to compromise and may instead lengthen the conflict.
Peskov further warned that Russia intends to react by establishing a wider security buffer, implying a potential push to capture additional Ukrainian territory. These drone strikes on oil refineries have already disrupted Russia’s fuel supply, leading the government to implement export bans. Reports indicate that over 90 percent of Russian regions are currently grappling with fuel rationing or shortages.
