Russia implemented a temporary ban on diesel exports lasting until July 31. This policy intends to alleviate domestic fuel scarcity caused by frequent Ukrainian drone strikes against national energy sites. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak revealed the directive during a session with President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that the move aims to stabilize internal supply levels.
While the regulation applies broadly, diesel shipments sent via international intergovernmental deals remain unaffected. Recent reports indicate that over 90 percent of Russian regions have faced fuel rationing or distribution issues since June. Ukrainian long-range strikes have successfully targeted refineries and fuel depots as far away as the Omsk region in Siberia.
As a result, some local governments have restricted how much fuel individuals can purchase to prevent panic buying and hoarding. Long lines have appeared at gas stations across the nation. President Putin, while acknowledging the logistical strain, insisted the issue is under control. He blamed Ukraine for using these attacks to unsettle the public and damage the national economy. Putin specifically instructed officials to prioritize stabilizing the supply chain in Crimea, which has faced significant difficulties.
