Nigerians in the Federal Capital Territory are facing difficulties in finding the sales points for the subsidized rice announced by the Federal Government.

The initiative, launched on September 5, 2024, by Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari, offers 30,000 metric tonnes of milled rice at a subsidized price of N40,000 per 50kg bag.

Kyari emphasized that this effort reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to preventing hunger among Nigerians.

He acknowledged that high food costs are influenced by several factors, including the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, climate change, and local economic conditions.

Kyari highlighted the challenges of rising food prices exacerbated by COVID-19, the Russia-Ukraine war, and other factors.

He reassured the public that mechanisms are in place to ensure transparency and a smooth distribution of the subsidized rice, urging cooperation with government agencies to make the initiative successful.

Kyari emphasized a “one person, one bag” policy to ensure fair distribution. However, despite the launch’s excitement, FCT residents are frustrated by their inability to find designated collection or payment points for the rice, with many reporting that no distribution points have been set up in their areas.
