The Federal Government has officially commenced the restoration of the Bama-Banki and Dikwa-Gamboru-Ngala roads in Borno State. These infrastructure developments are positioned as essential steps to bolster security, agricultural productivity, and the ongoing recovery of the North-East region from insurgency.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, highlighted that these projects aim to restore connectivity and revitalize the local economy. He emphasized that reliable transport routes are critical for traders, farmers, and the effective deployment of security forces across the border corridors.
Minister of Works David Umahi confirmed that the projects, first contracted in 2021, have undergone cost reviews. The Bama-Banki project is currently valued at over ₦70 billion, while the Dikwa-Gamboru route is set at more than ₦67 billion for their initial phases. The Dangote Group is actively supporting these upgrades through the federal tax credit scheme.
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum welcomed the initiative, noting that improved access to Chad, Cameroon, and Niger will significantly stimulate trade. Furthermore, during his visit to Maiduguri, Vice President Shettima attended the wedding ceremonies for the children of his close associates, Alhaji Ali Gujja and Alhaji Bala Mohammed Bukar.
