Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first men’s player in history to score 900 goals in official matches.

The milestone was achieved during Portugal’s UEFA Nations League match against Croatia in Lisbon on Thursday, September 5. Ronaldo reached this historic number with a volley from 6 yards out, following a cross from Nuno Mendes, putting Portugal 2-0 up in the 34th minute. Portugal ultimately won the match 2-1.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is now 58 goals ahead of his closest competitor, Lionel Messi, who has scored 842 goals. Brazilian legend Pelé holds third place with 765 goals.

Ronaldo was also the first to surpass the 800-goal mark, achieving this feat in late 2021 during his second stint with Manchester United.

In addition to his club achievements, Ronaldo holds the record for the most international goals, with 131 in 209 appearances. Messi is second on this list, with 109 goals, tied with former Iran forward Ali Daei.
