World Bank Clarifies Anambra State’s Stance on 2024 Hope-Governance Loan

The World Bank confirms that Anambra State chose not to participate in the 2024 Hope-Governance Programme, dismissing rumors that the state was rejected for failing to meet performance benchmarks.

The World Bank has clarified that Anambra State did not apply for the 2024 Hope-Governance Programme, refuting claims that the state was rejected over poor performance. A recent implementation report from the bank notes that 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory have joined the initiative, but Anambra is notably absent from that list. The documentation contains no mention of the state being disqualified for failing to meet specific requirements.

Christian Aburime, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, described the absence as a conscious administrative choice rather than a result of failed standards. He emphasized that the state administration carefully assesses all potential programs to ensure they align with existing priorities and fiscal schedules. The government remains in active discussions with the World Bank and has not ruled out future participation in initiatives that suit the state’s strategic objectives.
