Media figure and actress Toke Makinwa recently expressed her views on the challenges that arise when romantic partners have significantly different financial statuses. During an appearance on the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Makinwa stated that she supports the idea of dating someone within one’s own income bracket to avoid unnecessary conflicts.
Makinwa noted that some men pursue women who are more financially successful than themselves, only to later label those women as materialistic. She argued that maintaining compatibility in social and financial classes helps prevent resentment. According to the media personality, a supportive partner who contributes to household expenses is often ignored by men who instead seek relationships with women outside their financial means.
She also addressed the behavioral shifts that can occur when a partner gains wealth. Makinwa cautioned that success does not alter a person’s character but rather exposes their true nature. She expressed concern over instances where men mistreat partners who stood by them during difficult times once they eventually achieve financial success.
