Governor Mbah Demands Financial Integrity from Enugu Public Servants

Governor Peter Mbah has challenged Enugu State officials to uphold transparency and accountability, warning that corruption hinders critical infrastructure development and essential service delivery.

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has called on public officials to strictly adhere to the administration’s core values of transparency, accountability, and traceability. Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, at a two-day training workshop on anti-corruption policies and financial regulations, the Governor emphasized that corruption diverts vital funds away from schools, hospitals, and infrastructure. The event, held in Enugu and facilitated by Xavine Consulting Limited, aims to align civil servants with current financial laws and taxation frameworks.

Governor Mbah highlighted that every stolen naira hampers the state’s development, making it impossible to fund essential social services. He warned that ignorance of the law is not an excuse, urging attendees to share their knowledge within their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. The training features 16 experts, including representatives from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to ensure staff understand ethical and operational standards.

Justin Kuatsea, a former ICPC official and lead trainer, noted that public service corruption often manifests through contract inflation and recruitment irregularities. He asserted that overcoming these issues requires both individual integrity and strong leadership. Managing Director of Xavine Consulting, Catherine Kadiri, added that the program is vital for the state’s goal of achieving a 30 billion dollar economy, emphasizing that a commitment to ethical conduct is essential for professional success.
