A fresh wave of violence has resulted in the deaths of three individuals within the Anyiase community, located in the Moon Council Ward of Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State. The series of attacks began on Thursday afternoon and extended into Friday morning.
Former Supervisory Councillor Akerigba Lawrence reported that armed assailants invaded local farms around 3:20 p.m. on Thursday. During this initial raid, two farmers named Asongo Nagwebe and Tarzan Agbahegh were killed. A man and a woman were also critically wounded; the man later passed away during transport to a medical facility in Makurdi, raising the fatality count for the farm assault to three.
The violence continued on Friday morning when suspects established a blockade at Kyoawen Junction. They targeted a commercial bus with gunfire, though the number of victims from this specific incident remains unverified. Local officials, including Kwande Local Government Chairman Vitalis Neji and Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet, were unreachable for comment regarding the security situation.
