Former Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Solomon Dalung, recently suggested that the Nigerian government should recognize Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, for his intelligence. This recommendation follows a controversy involving Adeyemi and Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
Adeyemi previously accused Gbajabiamila of taking N400 million through an intermediary and requesting another N200 million to facilitate a job appointment. The Presidency has denied these claims, asserting that Gbajabiamila holds no authority to issue appointments or handle such correspondence.
During a Trust TV interview, Dalung argued that if the government’s dismissal of Adeyemi’s claims as a scam were true, it would imply a total failure of the administration and a lack of security regarding state agencies. Dalung noted that because Adeyemi successfully navigated multiple high-level offices, he displayed an exceptional level of cunning. He jokingly suggested that the President should grant Adeyemi the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, or GCON, so that his tactical skills might be repurposed for national progress.
