A morning explosion at the Bono Tank Farm in the Ibafon area of Apapa, Lagos, sparked widespread alarm on Friday. Located within the Best Energy Tank Farm complex, the facility was engulfed in flames, forcing nearby workers and residents to seek safety immediately.
Emergency response teams, including fire departments from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), rushed to the scene to prevent the fire from escalating or reaching neighboring installations. While the precise cause of the event remains unclear, a loud noise preceded the fire, causing initial confusion.
Margaret Adeseye, who serves as the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident. She stated that as of the latest update, there were no reported casualties. First responders continue to work on the site to fully secure the area.
Management for both Bono Tank Farm and Best Energy Tank Farm did not respond to multiple requests for statements regarding the situation.
