Abuja Court Permits Mike Ozekhome to Travel Abroad for Medical Treatment

An Abuja High Court has allowed Mike Ozekhome to travel to the UK for medical care for six weeks while he defends against forgery and impersonation charges.

A High Court in Abuja has authorized Mike Ozekhome to travel to the United Kingdom for a six-week medical leave. This decision follows his ongoing legal proceedings where he and co-defendant Ponfa Useni face 12 counts of forgery and impersonation initiated by the Attorney-General of the Federation regarding a UK property dispute.

Justice Chizoba Oji issued the order for the temporary release of Ozekhome’s international passport, mandating that he surrender it back to the court by August 26. The judge’s ruling followed a dispute where it was revealed the prosecution had failed to deposit the defendants’ passports as originally required by bail conditions. Upon being ordered to rectify this, the prosecution complied on Thursday.

With no objections from the prosecution counsel, C.L. Asonta, the court approved the travel window from July 9 to August 20. The trial is scheduled to resume on September 28. Ponfa Useni, the second defendant, is the son of the late Lt-Gen. Jeremiah Useni. The charges involve allegations that the pair conspired to create a fraudulent passport and a false Power of Attorney to claim property, claims both individuals firmly deny.
