The Kwara State Police Command has taken three individuals into custody regarding the kidnapping and killing of a student from Kwara State Polytechnic who went missing last June. SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, announced this update on July 1, 2026, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
Officers from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) led the operation to find 29-year-old Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, an Oyo State native who had been missing since June 4, 2026. The police identified the detainees as 23-year-old Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 25-year-old Bernard Kayode, and 27-year-old Owoyemi Bashiru. Authorities allege these men belong to the Eiye Confraternity and captured them on June 29, 2026, at various cult locations in Ilorin.
During questioning, the three suspects reportedly admitted to their involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of the student. Police findings indicate the gang consists of 12 members, meaning nine individuals remain on the run. Security forces are currently hunting the remaining members to dismantle the group and locate the victim’s body. The detained individuals are currently providing information about other violent crimes in the Ilorin area, and police have vowed to prosecute everyone involved once the investigation concludes.
