Authorities in Oyo State have taken three individuals into custody regarding the destruction and theft of essential state infrastructure. The recovered items, consisting of damaged railway tracks, have an estimated value of 200 million naira.
Olayinka Ayanlade, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the development on Wednesday. Acting on an alert from a member of the public, police units moved to the Gambari region of Orile-Igbon on July 14, 2026. The officers intercepted the suspects, identified as 54-year-old Waheed Ayinde, 27-year-old Muhammed Sani, and 22-year-old Hassan Ibrahim, around 1:45 p.m.
At the scene, officials seized the stolen rail materials along with a HOWO truck, registered as CAL 972 XA, which was reportedly being utilized to transport the illicit cargo. The operation serves as part of an ongoing initiative to combat economic sabotage within the region.
