Nick Kyrgios directs profanity at umpire during Wimbledon doubles return

Nick Kyrgios’ return to Wimbledon was marked by an argument with an umpire during a doubles loss, as the Australian dismissed potential fines for his behavior.

Nick Kyrgios returned to the All England Club for his first match since the 2022 final against Novak Djokovic, but his comeback concluded with a defeat in the men’s doubles alongside Alexander Bublik. The duo fell 6-3, 6-4 to the sixth-seeded team of Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.

During the second set, following a service break, Kyrgios engaged in a heated exchange with French umpire Manuel Absolu. After being confronted by the official, the 31-year-old responded with an expletive, stating he was indifferent to potential financial penalties. He further remarked that the tournament regulations were senseless.

Kyrgios, who did not receive a wildcard for the singles draw and currently holds a world ranking of 899, faced significant fines during his last Wimbledon appearance. In 2022, he incurred £14,500 in penalties for issues including verbal abuse and unsportsmanlike conduct. Having spent much of the recent period managing wrist and knee injuries, he recently claimed his first ATP-level victory since March 2025 at the Stuttgart Open.
