Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Benue State’s 2027 election, has voiced strong disapproval regarding the current wave of violence across the state. He is calling on both local authorities and security forces to intervene immediately to restore safety.
Aondoakaa labeled the assassination of Alhaji Ardo Risku Muhammad, the Benue State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), as a deplorable act and urged authorities to apprehend the perpetrators. He also addressed the recent tragedy in the Saai community of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, where multiple residents lost their lives during an attack, labeling the event a clear sign of the region’s deteriorating security climate.
The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice expressed his sympathies to the affected families and the Katsina-Ala community. Highlighting the government’s constitutional duty to protect its citizens, Aondoakaa suggested that the state has sufficient resources to boost security, especially following the removal of fuel subsidies by President Bola Tinubu. He referenced observations made by Major General Moses Gara of Operation Whirl Stroke, suggesting that Benue must improve its logistical backing for security agencies.
Furthermore, Aondoakaa questioned the management of state security votes, arguing that these funds should be directed toward intelligence and rapid response capabilities. He also pointed out that the poor state of rural roads serves as a significant hurdle for security personnel trying to reach affected areas quickly. He concluded by demanding comprehensive investigations and justice for victims of ongoing violence in areas such as Agatu, Guma, and Gwer West.
