Cleric and two congregants kidnapped in Benue

Rev. Dr. Samuel Gbinde and two church members were abducted by gunmen in Benue State’s Guma Local Government Area, prompting calls for prayer from the NKST church leadership.

Armed individuals have abducted Rev. Dr. Samuel Gbinde, a senior pastor with the Universal Reformed Christian Church (NKST), from his home in the Andyar area of Benue State’s Guma Local Government. Along with the clergyman, two members of his congregation were forcefully taken to an undisclosed location.

T. A. Targba, the General Secretary of NKST, issued a statement on Wednesday confirming the event. He characterized the assault as a distressing development and urged the public to intercede for the victims. In the formal announcement, the church expressed faith in God while documenting the early morning abduction that occurred on June 30, 2026.

The church leadership has called upon all clergy, members, and affiliated institutions to join together in consistent prayer for the swift and unconditional release of the three captives. Meanwhile, attempts to reach the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, for comments regarding the incident have not yet been successful.
