NDLEA Secures 6,778.5 Kilograms of Canadian Loud at Lagos Port

The NDLEA has seized 6,778.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud at the Apapa Port in Lagos following a coordinated international investigation involving multiple security agencies.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has officially secured 6,778.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a high-potency cannabis variety, following a joint seizure at the Apapa Port in Lagos. The operation involved cooperation between the NDLEA, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and various security partners.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, announced the recovery on Wednesday. The drugs were discovered within two shipping containers after lengthy investigations by the agency’s Special Investigation and Marine Intelligence units, working alongside the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Nigeria Customs Service.

During the official handover, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), represented by ACGN Ibinabo Archie-Abia, characterized the event as a significant victory for inter-agency cooperation. Marwa noted that these seizures, which occurred on June 15 and June 24, 2026, demonstrate the agency’s resolve to break apart organized drug smuggling rings.

Traffickers attempted to hide the shipments by using intricate international logistics paths. The first container traveled from Toronto by rail to Montreal, then through Morocco, eventually reaching the Apapa Port. The second shipment originated in Montreal, arrived via the *Africa Express* and *Algeciras Express* vessels, and was ultimately intercepted after being moved to the Apapa Port.

Marwa confirmed that the agency intends to pursue the financial structures supporting these illicit trades by prosecuting individuals and seizing criminal proceeds. He praised the collaborative efforts of the participating agencies, emphasizing that shared intelligence and international synergy remain essential to fighting transnational crime.
