YEDC Restores Power Operations in Biu Following Security Incident

YEDC is preparing to resume electricity services in Biu, Borno State, following a successful mediation effort by the state government after a previous attack on its facility.

The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) is set to restart its services in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. The announcement came after successfully addressing the concerns that forced a shutdown of operations following an assault on the firm’s local office.

Blessing Tunoh, the company’s spokesperson, released a statement on Wednesday thanking the Borno state government for its help in settling the dispute. The firm had previously suspended all work in the area on May 4, 2026, after unidentified individuals raided the office, ruined equipment, and stole valuable assets, citing concerns for both staff safety and infrastructure security.

The company highlighted the support of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, whose administration worked through the Ministry of Power and Energy to mediate the conflict. Additionally, YEDC thanked the Biu local government leadership, the Biu Elders Forum, and local community stakeholders for their roles in finding a peaceful path forward.

While the company reiterated its strong disapproval of the violence against its staff and property, it reminded residents that vandalism only serves to disrupt power distribution and harms the community. YEDC encouraged customers to utilize official channels for reporting grievances rather than engaging in physical confrontations. Services in Biu are expected to resume in the near future.
