Gary Neville Compares Kylian Mbappe to Brazilian Icon Ronaldo

Gary Neville says Kylian Mbappe’s playing style and goal-scoring ability mirror the traits of Brazilian icon Ronaldo.

Retired England international Gary Neville recently compared French team leader Kylian Mbappe to the legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo. Neville offered his analysis during an ITV broadcast covering France’s 3-0 victory over Sweden in the World Cup Round of 32.

Mbappe netted two goals during the match, securing France’s advancement to the next round. Neville noted that watching Mbappe closely reminded him of facing the Brazilian Ronaldo. He highlighted the Frenchman’s ability to use subtle movements and feints near the goal, which he described as intimidating for defenders.

Discussing the defensive challenges Mbappe presents, Neville explained that defenders like Sweden’s Gyökeres are often forced into difficult choices. He suggested that trying to block the forward’s right foot while steering him toward his weaker left is a primary, albeit desperate, defensive strategy. Mbappe has tallied six goals so far in the tournament and aims to guide France past Paraguay in their upcoming Round of 16 clash.
