Ben Stokes has stated that stepping away from international cricket is the right path for his personal well-being. Addressing Sky Sports, Stokes explained that while the choice may appear selfish, it is necessary for his future engagement with the sport. He clarified that the decision is unrelated to a recent incident in London that sidelined him for the second Test. Instead, he had been reflecting on his career trajectory since the Ashes defeat in Australia, noting that he experienced significant burnout during the summer’s opening Test at Lord’s.
Stokes emphasized that while leading the England team was a distinct privilege, the role carried hidden pressures that impacted his family life. He confirmed he will continue competing in domestic cricket for Durham, a club that helped him rediscover his passion for the game during his recent break.
